Brian Alderman spent most of his working life in Scotland as a primary school teacher. He now lives and works as an artist in Burtersett, near to Hawes in Wensleydale.

Colin Ian Christie

Since I was seven years old there has never been a period when I have not drawn or painted in some guise. I gained my degree at Edinburgh College of Art and then studied for a year at Glasgow School of Art. From there I went on to work in Graphics and Architecture until 1984. I was a University lecturer in design for 16 years and although I still teach workshops and give demonstrations most of my time is spent painting. I am a colourist and tonalist painter and I think my work is in demand because of those qualities. Its a way of seeing and thinking that has been with me as long as I can remember. My influences tend to come from Alla Prima painters and especially those who can distill the essence of a subject down to the quintessential elements

David Morris was born in North Yorkshire and studied painting and printmaking at Harrogate School of Art, before continuing his studies in painting and sculpture at the Slade School London- 1959 - 1961 where his Tutor was Kieth Vaughan.

After graduation he began teaching part time at Bradford College of Art.

In !963 He was appointed full time at Harrogate college of Art where his responsibilities included teaching print making across the college.

Since retiring from teaching David has concentrated on his own work as a painter and print maker.Etching is preferred method particularly aquatint.

His work follows in the tradition of English landscape art and is firmly rooted in observation. The North Yorkshire landscape and coast provide much of the subject matter where he favours less well known places like port Mulgrave and Skinningrove,

More recently the industrial landscape of Teesside is providing fertile ground.

Over the last ten years David has exhibited widely in the UK including the Royal Academy Summer Exhibitions.

In 2012 his work was purchased by the House of Lords

John Crewe is a largely self-taught artist, drawing inspiration from the best of modern art and the Old Masters; the rugged beauty of the north-eastern coastline as well as the spacious, solid tranquillity of the Yorkshire and Cumbrian dales. These influences are combined in a unique contemporary style.

John’s most characteristic work explores the complex, shifting boundaries between sea, sky and shore: the way in which water interacts with the coastline, the wind shivers the long grass and sunlight catches, fleetingly, in a breaking wave. These paintings are distillations of encounters with the natural world, both timeless and particular. 

However, landscapes and seascapes represent only one facet of John’s talent. It is a demonstration of his ability that he is as adept with charcoal on paper as with acrylic on canvas. In his powerful portraits and life studies, John captures the infinite subtleties of light as it falls on the planes of the body or face.  

John’s studio is situated in Hurworth-on-Tees, Darlington, Co Durham, but his work is enjoyed in a number of private collections as far afield as South Africa, France and southern Europe. He is a full-time artist, and is adding constantly to his portfolio. He welcomes private commissions, in any artistic genre and on a wide variety of subjects.

SUE HOWELLS 

She is a self-trained artist now working full-time as a painter. Known for her interpretation of landscapes and buildings she has developed a bold and vivid style to express her view of the world and bring perspective to her painting. She works mainly in watercolours but loves to experiment with other media.

She continues to broaden her range of subjects, maintaining her energy and colours by using an economy of brush strokes. Sue works as loosely as possible as watercolours can be controlled but never bullied.

The colours she uses take on a wide range of hues when she adds light and dark, giving a translucent quality coupled with brush texture and an ability to use contrasting colour to very good effect.

“Nothing in my pictures is real. Everything is off-kilter, which generates an energy that seems to appeal. The more I exaggerate my figures, the more popular they are. People can see what they want to see if pictures aren't literal.”

Nicola Litchfield. 
Lancashire artist Nicola Litchfield is renowned for her animal paintings.  Her work has an intimate, narrative quality, be it a sleeping calf, a scratching pig or lamb's playing.

Her sensitive approach portrays the real essence of the animals and her genuine affection for them.  Working in both oil and pastel Nicola uses broad painterly brush strokes delicate with colour and captures a wonderful feeling of light.  Her paintings are true animal magic!

Since winning the Society for All Artists, Artist of the Year Animal Category in 2008, Nicola's work has become much in demand.

Margaret Morris 

Margaret Morris was born in Sedbergh, Cumbria and spent her childhood in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales on the farm that her family had worked for four generations.  Encouraged by teachers and influenced by her father, an amateur water-colour artist, she gained a place at Harrogate School of Art in 1960.

She continued to draw and paint whilst raising her family of four children and it was during this period that she became interested in etching.  In 1989 she returned to Art School first to York then to Bradford to study for a BA in Art & Design.  After graduating in 1997 she returned to Bradford College and gained an MA in printmaking.

Margaret is strongly influenced by her immediate surroungings and whilst at college in Bradford became interested in the urban landscape producing a series of silkscreen prints and two artist books.  The journey between home and city became a source of inspiration, resulting in some large abstract carborundum prints.

Now back in the rural environment her work is inspired by the natural landscape, in particular the western dales.  Attracted by the wild slopes of the Howgill fells and the open moorland above Dent she returns to these places that inspire her work and her attachment to them plays a central role in the creative process.

Ailsa Read lives and works in Yorkshire and her paintings are somewhere between contemporary and traditional, based on detailed observation, but also in trying to convey the spirit of the sea as the last wilderness.

Recording the moods of the sea is a constant challenge, and she always wants to remain open to the possibilities of experimentation with different mixed media.

Being aware of the sounds, smells and the way the light falls on the water, gives her an exciting and powerful approach to her paintings.

Janet Rogers trained at Riegate College of Art, England and gained the Surrey Diploma in Textile Design. She thenworked for Heal Fabrics in London and later spent six years working as Art Editor at an Oxford publishers.

Her exibitions include the Royal Academy Summer Exibition, where she was selected by the Financial Times as one of the most promising newcomers at the exibition,and the Royal Society of Minatures Annual Exibition at the Mall Galleries in London .She hue
as also held a one woman show in France and her work is now sold extensively in the USA. 
Her paintings have been purchased by important private collectors both in this country and abroad: commisions include paintings for galleries and for interior designers in London and throughout the UK.

Her work is very much influenced by the work of Samuel Palmer, a 19th cenrury English painter. The most recent work is absract using mixed media and special techniques, incorporating gold leaf. Her style has a timeless quality and the colours complement and harmonize with  any setting.

Due to the success of her work, Janet Rogers has been published by leading fine art printers, who have produced several of her paintings as limited edition prints.

                            She paints full time from her studio in Kent, UK.

Terry studied drawing and painting at Sunderland College of Art - and followed a career in Graphic Design/Advertising, culminating in running a team of Designers in Lancaster as senior founding partner of R&H Design.

Since he owned and ran a successful Graphic Design business for most of his working life, the processes used in his professional work have influenced the way Terry process and interprets what he sees when he paints. Terry is very conscious of selecting subjects that have a strong composition/structure. It may also be noticeable that he favours for his landscapes a very high horizon - or indeed no sky at all - and will often interpret areas in a simple composition in great detail in a flat graphic style. Terry always feels it necessary to paint in series - so what starts out as a single idea or image - may well end up as a collection of eight to twelve paintings.

John is a figurative a painter working from home in his studio on the Norfolk/Suffolk border and from a base in Appleby in Cumbria.

He also publishes his own giclee reproductions.

He became better known for watercolours but as result of summer school at the Slade in London he now enjoyes developing a distinctive style in oils and acrylics. This has also made him enjoy much more “plein air” painting.

Over many years he has had a multitude of one man and shared exhibitions in galleries, mostly in the North of England, but also in Scotland and as far afield as Spain and New Zealand.

In the past he has exhibited in the Mall galleries in London in the Royal Society of Marine Artists Open exhibitions and in the Houses of Parliament and more recently has had regular success in having work accepted for, and been a prizewinner in the Cumbria Open Artists exhibitions.
